Shri Datta Swami: The mind is compared to a monkey - restless by nature. But remember, the same mind that creates problems can become your best friend when trained properly.
Here are practical steps:
1. Do not fight with the mind directly - this only strengthens its resistance
2. Give it something higher to focus on - the divine name or form
3. Practice regularly at the same time and place
4. Start with short sessions and gradually increase
5. Be patient - mind control is a gradual process
The key is to replace lower thoughts with higher thoughts. When the mind wanders, gently bring it back without frustration. With consistent practice and divine grace, the mind becomes naturally calm.
